On my visit to Buckingham Palace , we ended our tour of the Palace with an ice cream – why not? Our visit was sparked off by the garden party at Buckingham Palace I attended with my husband. I enjoyed myself so much that I had to go back to do a proper tour and see the state rooms – you can read about our Tour of Buckingham Palace here.
At the end of the tour you leave through the Buckingham Palace Gardens and as well as tea rooms, you have the opportunity to stop for an ice cream at the van parked beside the path overlooking the lake. Of course, being Buckingham Palace, this isn’t any old Mr Whippy van, but a carefully branded Buckingham Palace ice cream van, with all the royal crests you could wish for.
I’d like to think that when Her Majesty feels like an ice cream, she sends her footmen out to get one from the ice cream van for a bit of fun, but of course I’m being far too fanciful. I know the Queen’s far too busy a lady for such things, her days are filled with endless cups of teas at hospital openings, listening to children sing and visits to industry. She’s probably ready for a stiff gin and tonic more than anything else at the end of a long day.
If you’re in London during the summer months when Her Majesty is taking her holidays in sunny Scotland, you should definitely take the tour of Buckingham Palace and stop for a royal ice cream on the way out.

I love the idea of the Queen trotting out, corgis in tow, ready for an ice-cream on a hot day. And wow, an invite to the Queen's tea party.

@sherry Sadly I didn't have any ice cream on that occasion but I seem to remember that it was some excellent tubs of quality British Ice Cream. But I can confirm that the cakes at the Buckingham palace tea party were outstanding!

I've never toured the palace before but it sounds fabulous...especially if there's ice cream at the end! Was it any good?

I like the visual that Monna's comment conjures up. After all, don't we all need a good ice cream every once in a while?
